Mattan, WashU Hillel ShinshinWe are thrilled to welcome Mattan, one of the St. Louis Shinshinim to Hillel. Mattan will be working with the WashU Hillel staff and students on Israel programming, learning opportunities, and more!
A note from Mattan:
Shalom! My name is Mattan, and I am from Herzliya in Israel. I will be spending this coming year in St. Louis as a Shinshin working at a few partner organizations including Hillel at WashU. I’m very excited for this opportunity!
In my free time, I love playing sports, going to the gym, and watching movies. I’ve been highly involved in the Israeli Scouts youth movement since 4th grade. I am the older brother to a younger brother and a younger sister.
I am really looking forward to meeting WashU students, getting to know new people, building meaningful relationships and sharing this special experience together with the St. Louis Jewish community.
—----------------------------------------------------
The Shinshinim program is a partnership between the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, the Jewish Agency for Israel, and local Jewish partner organizations with the support of the Lubin Green Foundation.
The Shinshinim are Israeli teen emissaries who have recently graduated high school and defer their army service by a year to volunteer in Jewish communities abroad teaching about Israel and Israeli culture. They do so through creative programs and challenging discussions, bringing an authentic Israel experience to the community they serve, while forming deep and meaningful relationships with their host families and members of the community.
WIPAC (WashU Israel Public Affairs Committee)
WIPAC is an AIPAC-trained organization that engages a diverse group of students in strengthening the critical US-Israel relationship. WIPAC meets regularly with members of Congress, engages campus leaders about issues in the Middle East, and promotes ties between WashU and Israel.
